It is our great pleasure to announce that Prof. Simone Bersini and Prof. Arianna Baggiolini were granted 1’800’000 chf to develop a project dealing with the biofabrication of miniaturized models of the human brain (i.e. organoids) and their integration with functional microvascular networks.
The funded project will allow to study key mechanisms of neural progenitor cell differentiation during brain development and to recapitulate increasingly complex architectures of the human brain.
The generation of vascularized brain organoids and their integration within custom built high-throughput platforms will allow to answer multiple biological questions dealing with the physio-pathology of the brain, from the formation of brain tumors and metastases to the progression of neurodegenerative disorders (e.g. Alzheimer’s Disease).
