At the LRT our vision is to improve the understanding of human diseases at the functional and molecular levels in order to improve patient cure.
The LRT is part of the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale, a multi-center hospital of Southern Switzerland and its numerous institutes are centers of excellence for the cure of diseases. The integration within a clinical organization offers the unique opportunity for a reciprocal fostering between disease-inspired biomedical research and the translation of new findings into effective diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to prevent and treat diseases.
The LRT research platform is a comprehensive approach based on cellular and animal models of disease coupled to innovative functional analysis and state of the art molecular and genetic methodologies. Our studies are focused on the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms involved in the initiation, progression and consequences of pathological processes.
Another equally important objective of the LRT is the training and education of young scientists to foster their career in basic and clinical research and the accomplishment of an academic degree.
As part of the BIOS+ scientific community, we advocate the exchange of data and know-how with national and international research team and the dissemination of our rationale and results through specialized and general communication channels.
